That’s right! We have a podcast. The ABA is jumping into the podcast pond with our first episode of the American Birding Podcast, hosted by yours truly but featuring a number of ABA staff and friends. We hope you will join us as we try out this new venture, and be sure to let us know what you might want to hear on a podcast about birding by the ABA.
Our first guest is Laura Kammermeier of Nature Travel Network. We talk about birding travel, what birders want when they head abroad, and how traveling for birds helps establish ecotourism and conservation initiatives around the world.
I also offer a commentary on a cool birding tourism initiative in Colombia that I had the pleasure of taking part in. You can find more information about that here.
And here’s the post about Hawaii that I mention in the podcast.
There’s more to come! Please let us know what you think on Facebook or Twitter, or right here in the comments.
The American Birding Podcast brings together staff and friends of the American Birding Association as we talk about birds, birding, travel and conservation in North America and beyond.
Join host Nate Swick every other Thursday for news and happenings, recent rarities, guests from around the birding world, and features of interest to every birder.
Will this podcast be available on iTunes?
thanks,
Yes, hopefully we’ll have it on iTunes and other podcast distribution sites very soon.
However, you can begin downloading immediately by ding the following.
Opening the iTunes application (this will work on a Mac or a PC) and click on File –> Subscribe to Podcast then enter http://birding.libsyn.com/rss and hit OK. iTunes should subscribe to the feed and start downloading episodes automatically.
Does the ABA Podcast have a home URL or just appear as blog entries?
Found it: http://birding.libsyn.com/
Yes, and we’ll soon by on iTunes, Google Play, and Stitcher for people who receive podcasts that way. It just takes a little while to be approved.
Love it!
Great start to a great idea – thanks, Nate. Just an FYI on visiting Cuba – apparently, Cubans are experiencing food shortages because what little there is, is being taken by the recent rapid increase in tourism. Our travel certainly has local consequences, as this podcast also described.
Thanks for that insight! I was not aware of that and that’s important to know.
