Rae Holcomb, age 16, is a self-described social birder. She believes that the spirit of birdwatching is derived not only from birds but also from our fellow birders. She enjoys nothing better than a day spent meeting fellow birders, sharing the thrill of the chase for a rare bird, swapping stories, and passing on knowledge to new birders. Rae dedicates many hours every summer to at her local Audubon chapter’s summer camps. By teaching children about birds and ecology she hopes to share her love of birding with the next generation. Rae also loves to incorporate birds into art through sketching and painting. She mostly birds locally in southern California, though she loves to travel whenever possible.
