Southwest Wings Birding and Nature Festival is Arizona’s oldest birding festival. Since 1991 we’ve been offering small group trips exploring Southeast Arizona’s Sky Islands. The 2026 Spring Fling will run from Wednesday May 6 to Saturday May 9, 2026 with a welcome pre-festival Jamboree on Tuesday May 6. It consists of mainly Group Van Field Trips to more distant and less accessible locations with a small number of small car-caravan style guided field trips in participants’ own vehicles to more local spots.

Arizona specialties include: Montezuma Quail, Gray and Zone-tailed Hawks, Lucifer, Violet-crowned and White-eared Hummingbirds, Elf Owl, Buff-collared Nightjar, Coppery-tailed Trogon, Arizona Woodpecker, Rose-throated Becard, Northern Beardless Tyrannulet, Buff-breasted Flycatcher, Thick-billed Kingbird, Mexican Chickadee, Olive, Lucy’s, Grace’s and Red-faced Warblers, Painted Redstart, and Botteri’s, Cassin’s and Five-striped Sparrows.
