Maryland Ornithological Society (MOS) conducts an annual three day convention where members and non-members can meet, socialize, discuss conservation and natural resource topics, and enjoy guided field trips in various regions of Maryland. This year MOS will conduct our 74th annual convention on May 20 – 22, 2022 in Solomons, Maryland at the Solomons Inn Resort and Marina. There will be field trips, speakers, a poster session, raffle, photo contest, and a social. The event ends with a Tally Rally to review the species seen during the convention. All attendees receive a pin designed by an MOS member and selected by competition. Convention pins illustrate the time of year and a bird species appropriate to the location. Go to www.mosconvention.org for more information about our convention.
Conference locations vary from year to year to sample Maryland’s great diversity of species and habitats. Usually these are held in the spring or early summer when birds are migrating or nest building but are occasionally held in August to catch the shorebird early migration southward or in February in Ocean City to see the wintering waterfowl. Recent conferences have been at: Chestertown, Ocean City, WISP Resort, Salisbury University, and Hagerstown.
MOS is a nonprofit, statewide organization of people who are interested in birds and nature. It promotes the study and enjoyment of birds, knowledge about the natural world around us, and fosters their appreciation and conservation.
