CORPUS CHRISTI–We’re flapping our wings for new features and entertainment at Corpus Christi’s eighth BIRDIEST FESTIVAL IN AMERICA, April 23-27, like ‘Birds & Beers,’ ‘Author’s Wine & Cheese Night’, Keynote Speaker, choice of two Pre-Trips, a Post-Trip, six different exclusive full-day Field Trips, 13 half-day Trips, five new. Based at birding hot spot South Texas Botanical Gardens, 8545 S. Staples St., the Festival is presented by Flint Hills Resources.
“We’ve hosted birders from 30 states, last year adding Alaska, Canada, Australia and The Netherlands all wanting to add new species to their lists making annual spring migration back north through South Texas via the country’s busiest flyways,” explained event chair Denise Housler.
“Our Festival good-luck charm, a Cattle Tyrant, magically appearing in downtown Corpus Christi November, 2023–the first sighting north of Panama shocking the birding world– has made downtown Corpus Christi his home,” she added.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER Kevin K. Karlson, accomplished birder, author, professional tour leader, wildlife photographer and instructor, is a regular at bird festivals in North America, for his keynote presentations, bird identification and photography workshops. Kevin presents, “Through the Looking Glass: Reflections of a Grateful Birder,” a light-hearted experience examining birdwatching through his eyes, exploring why birds fascinate humans; and unique camaraderie fellow birders naturally form. He’ll share photos of birds, people and other creatures from many locations, plus humorous stories that make the hobby life-long.
