A significant part of your membership dollars goes to support our Conservation & Community programs, including these listed below. That’s why every dollar over $25/year of your membership is tax-deductible.
Our Spark Bird Project awards new binoculars to programs, organizations, and curriculums that educate underserved school-age children in the United States in all manner of natural history study, but particularly those involving birds.
There are researchers, educators, and conservationists in Latin America and the Caribbean striving to protect birds and their habitats, but many are working without the most basic equipment, such as binoculars and field guides. Our Birders’ Exchange program collects donated new and used equipment and distributes it to our colleagues working to conserve birds and their habitats throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.
International Intern Program
The International Intern Program is a collabration between the American Birding Association and Massachusetts Audubon Society. The goal of the program is to develop natural history and conservation ambassadors, and support ecotourism and conservation in the interns’ home countries.
Interns participating in this program spend a number of weeks studying and enhancing their leadership skills through participation in birding programs and field trips, and return home with valuable skills that enhance their careers, their conservation projects, and their lives.
Birders are big users of National Wildlife Refuges, but our numbers and interests are not accurately assessed in the habitat and bird conservation program. We seek to change that by selling the Migratory Bird Hunting and Conservation Stamp (Duck Stamp) directly through our organization. Your purchase through us registers your birding interest in the conservation goals of this valuable program.
Birder’s Guide to Conservation & Community
More about the work the ABA is doing, and the great work done by ABA members, is published annually in the Birder’s Guide to Conservation & Community. A strong membership makes for a strong ABA. Thank you for being a part of that!
