Are you looking for migrating shorebirds? Thousands of birds? Camp Avocet will be stacked full of migrants from their northern breeding grounds such as dowitchers, Black-necked Stilt, Semipalmated, Western, and Least Sandpipers, and of course American Avocets numbering in the hundreds. Delaware boasts an outstanding fall migration of shorebirds with easy access and fabulous viewing opportunities. There truly are birds EVERYWHERE! In this hotspot region for world-class birding, there’s always a chance for a rarity! Due to the grand diversity of southern Delaware’s bird-rich habitats, nearly 150 species of birds are regularly seen and studied during this eight-day camp extravaganza!
Daily itineraries include fabulous outdoor classroom field trips led by ABA Staff along with guest instructors. All day birding and natural history study will be punctuated by terrific educational workshops, photography and illustration building skills and discovering current technological advances in birding, making Camp Avocet a truly exceptional experience!
Scholarships for all camps are available! The American Birding Association, through the generous support of our sponsors and ABA members, provides limited scholarships to help young people who are interested in advancing their interest in birds and bird conservation study to attend our summer camps.
