As was the case last year, the summer season in Arkansas for 2025 was very dry which may have accounted for a small number of unusual bird sightings.

Fulvous Whistling ducks are fairly rare in Arkansas. Two were observed at Camp Nine (restricted access) in Desha Co on 22 Jun (Dalton Robinson). Four Mottled Ducks were observed at Camp Nine (restricted access) in Desha Co on 16 Jun and remained until at least 22 Jun (Dalton Robinson).
The influx of Limpkins into Arkansas that started in 2021/22 has slowed down. But a single Limpkin was observed at Arkansas Post National Memorial in Arkansas Co on 13 May (Spencer Weitzel).
A Piping Plover was photographed at Lollie Bottoms in Faulkner Co on 14 Jul (Roger Massey). A late, and apparently injured Hudsonian Godwit was photographed off of Duck Puddle Rd near Newark in Independence Co on 10 Jun (Colin Dobson).
Also late was an American Herring Gull observed at Treadway Minnow Farm in Prairie Co on 5 Jun (Kenny Nichols). A Neotropic Cormorant was observed at Overflow NWR in Ashley Co on 7 Jul (Crystal Noble).
A Tricolored Heron was photographed at Grassy Lake (restricted access) in Hempstead Co on 3 Jun (Charles Mills). Another Tricolored Heron was observed at Overflow NWR in Ashley Co on 7 Jul (Crystal Noble). Black-crowned Night Herons breed sporadically across Arkansas. Seven were photographed at Dr. Lester Sitzes III Bois d’Arc WMA in Hempstead Co on 2 June (Jim Landrum) and thereafter observed throughout Jun and Jul. Three additional Black-crowned Night Herons were observed at India’s Reservoir in Lincoln Co on 4 Jun (Justin Feezell). Yellow-crowned Night Herons also breed irregularly across Arkansas. One was photographed in Little Rock in Pulaski Co on 18 Jul (Courtney France). Two White Ibis were observed at Lollie Bottoms in Faulkner Co on 14 Jul (Michael Linz).
A very late Dark-eyed Junco was photographed in Pangburn, White Co on 6 June (Terry Butler).
