Title: Summer Camp Nurse

FLSA Status: Full Time/Exempt/Salary

Reports to: Camp Director

Location: Allenspark, CO

Salary: $800 with lodging and meals provided during camp session

Duration: June 23-June 30, 2024 with additional limited training in May/prior to the session

       Purpose: The Summer Camp Nurse oversees the health and wellness of overnight camp participants (ages 13-17) and staff by dispensing prescribed and over-the-counter medications and providing basic first aid. The Summer Camp Nurse is also responsible for maintaining camper and staff health forms, keeping medication, illness, and injury logs, and communicating with camp families regarding their camper’s health and wellness.

About the Organization:

The American Birding Association (ABA) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that provides leadership to birders by increasing their knowledge, skills, and enjoyment of birding. We are the only organization in North America that specifically caters to recreational birders. We also contribute to bird and bird habitat conservation through our varied programs.

The ABA inspires all people to enjoy and protect wild birds. It represents the North American birding community and supports birders through publications, conferences, workshops, tours, partnerships, and networks. The ABA’s education programs promote birding skills, ornithological knowledge, and the development of a conservation ethic. The ABA encourages birders to apply their skills to help conserve birds and their habitats, and we represent the interests of birders in planning and legislative arenas.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Attend to the illnesses and injuries of both program participants and staff.
  • Supervise and maintain high standards of health and safety, follow risk management policies in all activities, and adhere to the policies and procedures outlined in the Camp Colorado Staff Training Manual.
  • Administer over-the-counter and prescription medications to program participants and staff per written protocols.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of medication administration and illness/injury care delivered to campers and staff per written protocols.
  • Report illness, injury, and abuse to proper authorities when necessary per written protocols.
  • Manage all documentation and protocol in relation to Colorado State Child Care Licensure.
  • Work directly with the Camp Director, EMS, fire department, and hospital, either by phone or in-person, when needed to attend to the illness/injury of a participant or staff.
  • Work directly with the Camp Director to communicate with families regarding camper health and wellness.
  • Live on site in close proximity to participants and staff during overnight camp.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Qualifications:

  • Physician (MD), Nurse Practitioner (NP), or Registered Nurse (RN) with active license in Colorado preferred. LPN or CNA eligible to practice in the State of Colorado (or Compact State license).
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a pediatric nursing position or prior experience in day and/or overnight camp or school settings preferred, but not required.
  • Maintain current CPR/AED and first aid certifications.
  • Able to clear state and federal background checks and drug screens.
