From July 8-13, 2012, eighteen young birders from across the U.S. and parts of Canada arrived in Estes Park, Colorado, to participate in the American Birding Association's annual young birder camp, Camp Colorado. We visited many great locations, including Rocky Mountain National Park, Pawnee National Grasslands, and Phantom Canyon, saw lots of life birds, and made many new friendships. The campers will be telling you more about the experience in their own words in the coming weeks, but for the time being, here are a few of their favorite photos:

Stay tuned for more!

Great photos! I lived in Colorado for a few years, and I deeply miss the high trill of the Broad-Tailed Hummingbird in its pendulum dance, and the bright blue bellies of the Mountain Bluebird. That Western Tanager photo is really something!
Never saw a Lark Bunting (that I knew of). But I have seen a lot of Indigo Buntings in Pennsylvania this year.
Keep up the birding!

Beautiful photos! I love all the yellow. I’m writing on behalf of the KEEN Recess Team, because we’re inspired by what you do. It’s so important to develop the next generation of outdoor enthusiasts. Camp Colorado sounds like an amazing opportunity.
Best,
KEEN Recess Team
Thanks so much for your kind words. We had a fantastic week with lots of great birds, new knowledge, friends, and experiences, and plenty of time in a beautiful part of the world. (And as an added bonus, several of us were wearing our Keens at camp, keeping our feet very happy and comfortable on our hikes!)
Great to hear! Looking forward to hearing about the rest of ABA’s summer adventures!
