ABA ScholarshipsApplications for scholarships are open as of December 20, 2010. The American Birding Association provides scholarships to help young people who are interested in birds to attend summer camps, workshops, training programs, conventions and other bird-related activities. The funds for our scholarships come primarily from donations from ABA members and donations from sponsors. Over the years we helped many young birders attend summer camps, and other events. You’ll find some details on the camps and events that we have supported and reports from young birders on their camp experiences on the ABA website at: www.aba.org/yb/schol/winners.html Your partner camp application form, essay and letter of recommendation must arrive by April 1, 2011 (February 18 for Hog Island Audubon Camp). Notice: scholarship application deadline for Camp Colorado, Camp LRGV, and the Cascades Banding Camp has been extended until May 13th. Send your application to Young Birder Scholarships/American Birding Association, 1618 W Colorado Ave, Colorado Springs, CO 80904. Richard E. Andrews Memorial Scholarship Richard E. Andrews, a long-time member of the ABA, was particularly interested in studying birds, identifying them in the field, and encouraging young people in their endeavors. Carrying out his wishes, Richard's wife Anne, and their children, generously donated his extensive collection of books about birds and birding to the ABA library, now the Richard E. Andrews Library, Claudia Wilds and Ted Parker Memorial Collection, for the birding community to enjoy. In addition, the 2004 publication of the ABA Birder's Field Notebook Manual was underwritten by the Richard E. Andrews Memorial Fund. In honor of Richard E. Andrews, and to carry out his interests in birding and encouraging young people, Mrs. Andrews has been funding young birder scholarships for many years. These special, need-based, scholarships are to provide financial assistance to young birders, ages 13-18, for ABA events, such as Young Birder camps, which they otherwise could not attend.
