Alabama

Alabama Ornithological Society (AOS) Founded in 1952. Website has info about birds and birding in Alabama, checklist of Alabama birds, bird count data, membership info, schedule of meetings, and RBA reports for Alabama and N/W Florida.

Alaska

Mat-Su Birders is a local wild bird club in the beautiful Matanuska-Susitna Valleys in Alaska. Mat-Su Birders formed in January 1999. Members are folks from all walks of life, all age groups, all levels of bird knowledge and birding experience from beginner to expert, oldtimers and newcomers to the area. Everyone is welcome!

Arizona

Desert Rivers Audubon Society - covers the eastern portion of Maricopa County.

Maricopa Audubon Society (MAS) is NAS' Phoenix metropolitan area chapter, with over 3000 members. Website has info about the chapter, programs and meetings, online newsletter, links. This club covers the central portion of Maricopa County.

Sonoran Audubon Society - covers the western portion of Maricopa County.

Tucson Audubon Society (TAS) has been working in southern Arizona for more than 50 years to promote conservation and environmental education, and to provide environmental recreation.

Arkansas

Audubon Society of Central Arkansas NAS chapter. Website includes info on meetings, citizen science programs, map with directions to birding hotspots.

Northwest Arkansas Arkansas Society NAS chapter. Website has a growing birdlist.

California

Kern Audubon Society Serves the Southern San Joaquin Valley and the Greater Bakersfield area. Website has info relevant to the environment, birding, education, conservation, and nature lovers.

Sea & Sage Audubon Society Serves northern, central, and a portion of southern Orange County. Website has info about field trips, conservation activities, programs, birding classes for adults, nature programs for children, volunteer opportunities, library of nature slides.

Tehachapi Mountains Birding Club serves birders in the southern Sierras community of Tehachapi. The website's primary focus is educational, and includes local bird specie articles, reports on several club research projects (including the annual Turkey Vulture migration census), birding book reviews, bird photos, and schedule of meetings and field trips.

Colorado

Colorado Field Ornithologists the official state organization, is dedicated to the field study, conservation and enjoyment of Colorado birds. Website contains info about the organization as well as Colorado birding.

Delaware

Delaware Valley Ornithological Club. Founded in 1890, DVOC is one of the oldest bird clubs in the world. DVOC serves southeastern Pennsylvania, central and southern New Jersey, and the state of Delaware. The club welcomes anyone with a genuine interest in birds, regardless of background, experience or skill level. Florida

Audubon Society of the Everglades Incorporated in 1966 and serves communities from Jupiter and Tequesta south to Boca Raton.

Bay County Audubon Society Bay County Audubon Society was founded in 1962 by citizens dedicated to the preservation of natural areas and wildlife habitat. We serve Panama City and surrounding areas in Bay, Gulf, Calhoun, Washington, Holmes and Jackson Counties.

Georgia

Iowa Ornithologists' Union Hosts Iowa Birds & Birding website, with info on IOU, Iowa RBA and Iowa Chat, birding locations, hotbirds, checklists, Christmas Bird Counts, useful local contacts.

Kansas

Kansas Ornithological Society Website contains information about KOS, upcoming events, and back issues of the quarterly Newsletter, The Horned Lark, has current Kansas Checklist as well as individual county checklists for all 105 Kansas counties, and links to the Kansas Bird Discussion list archives as well as special projects of the KOS. KOS was formed in 1949 and serves nearly 400 members.

Kentucky

Kentucky Ornithological Society Website includes the Kentucky RBA, a checklist of Kentucky birds, plus info about The Kentucky Warbler (official publication of KOS), KOS membership, meetings, field trips, bird counts, and bird conservation plus links to numerous other bird-related sites.

Louisiana

Louisiana Ornithological Society Formed in 1947 to gather and disseminate accurate information about the bird life of the western hemisphere and Louisiana. Crescent Bird Club Formed in 1966 to serve the New Orleans area which, being at the southern end of the Mississippi flyway and on the Gulf of Mexico, gets a wide variety of species. Club sponsors free birding trips for members to birding hotspots.

Shreveport Society for Nature Study Sub-group The Bird Study Group, Shreveport's organization of bird-watchers. Offers field trips, bird discussions, a Bird Report database tracking bird sightings, and other programs of interest to people with an interest in birds.

Maryland

Howard County Bird Club A chapter of the Maryland Ornithological Society. In June, the Club published Birding Howard County, Maryland, a 134 page spiral-bound guide to finding birds in the county. Web page provides local birding updates and county bird list.

Maryland Ornithological Society Founded in 1945, the Maryland Ornithological Society promotes the study and enjoyment of birds. Birding activities, publications, and programs are available to members through the state organization or a local chapter. The website is a complete resource on birding in Maryland.

Maryland Bluebird Society MBS was recently incorporated as a non-profit promoting conservation of the Eastern Bluebird through education, establishment of trails, and support of research.

Massachusetts

Massachusetts Audubon The largest conservation organization in New England, concentrating its efforts on protecting the nature of Massachusetts for people and wildlife. Across the state operates 36 wildlife sanctuaries that are open to the public and serve as a base for its conservation, education, and advocacy efforts.

Brookline Bird Club Founded in 1913, the club now has more than 1300 members nationwide. Web page is useful for anyone interested in birding in New England, particularly Massachusetts.

Cape Cod Bird Club is a 500 member club founded in 1971 that offers monthly meetings and weekly field trips. The website is useful to anyone intersted in birding on Cape Cod Massachusetts.

Eastern Massachusetts Hawk Watch (EMHW) is an all-volunteer, member-based organization whose mission is to promote the study and conservation of hawks locally and on a continental scale by monitoring migration in Massachusetts. The web site contains information on all aspects of hawk watching.

The Essex County Ornithological Club (ECOC) was established in 1916 to promote ornithological study throughout Essex County, Massachusetts. The Club maintains a long tradition of an annual May bird census by canoe, kayak and on foot along the Ipswich River. The ECOC periodically revises the official checklist of the Birds of Essex County. Website includes meeting/speaker schedule and the Field List of the Birds of Essex County, Massachusetts.

Hoffmann Bird Club Founded in 1940, the Hoffmann Bird Club has approximately 125 members and offers monthly meetings and field trips within Berkshire County and to surrounding states.

Michigan

Erie Shores Birding Association of Monroe, Michigan, was organized in 1986 for the purpose of promoting the observation and study of birds and other related wildlife, their environment and their conservation.

Huron Valley Audubon Society of Livingston County Non-profit affliated as an official chapter of the Michigan Audubon Society but completely self-supporting. Goal is education by supporting the process of lifelong learning, with a program of informative meetings, nature oriented field trips and conservation projects. Michigan Audubon's mission is to connect birds and people for the benefit of both through environmental research, conservation, and education in the state. The society has about 2000 members statewide, 41 local chapters, 19 sanctuaries, and 4 affiliates. Michigan Audubon also nurtures partnerships with National Audubon, Detroit Audubon, and the Kalamazoo Nature Center.

Michigan Loon Preservation Association Mission is to conserve and enhance the Common Loon Population through research, habitat protection and restoration, species protection, and public awareness and involvement. Website includes info about the Common Loon and the organization.

Minnesota

Minnesota Ornithologists' Union Organization of professionals and amateurs interested in birds. Publishes a journal, The Loon, and a newsletter, Minnesota Birding. Info-rich web site includes lists and distribution maps of the birds found in Minnesota, a list of 16 quality birding locations, an account or recent rare, unusual or interesting sightings.

Mississippi

Mississippi Coast Audubon Society (MCAS) A NAS chapter. Website includes a calendar of activities, bird list and other resources.

Missouri

Webster Groves Nature Study Society Organization of amateur naturalists interested in plants, insects, and birds of Saint Louis area. Website includes info on where to find a Eurasian Tree Sparrow in the area, phone #s for recent rare bird sightings, field trips, checklist, and archive of recent bird reports and articles from Nature Notes.

Nebraska

Nebraska Ornithologists' Union Dedicated to study, appreciation and protection of birds. Website gives info about NOU (membership, officers, publications, records committee) plus upcoming birding events, RBAs, and favorite birding areas within the state.

Audubon Nebraska is the state office of National Audubon Society in Nebraska and website has info on NAS activities in the state, plus sections on Audubon's two Nebraska nature centers, Audubon Spring Creek Prairie and Lillian Rowe Sanctuary.

Wachiska Audubon Society is a local chapter of National Audubon Society serving 17 counties in Southeast Nebraska. Website features info on field trips, educational meetings and wildlife habitat conservation.

New Brunswick

New Brunswick Federation of Naturalists A non-profit formed in 1972 to encourage better understanding of nature and the environment, and to focus concern for the natural heritage of New Brunswick.

New Jersey

Delaware Valley Ornithological Club. Founded in 1890, DVOC is one of the oldest bird clubs in the world. New Jersey Audubon Society Founded in 1897, and one of the oldest independent Audubon societies, NJAS has no connection with the National Audubon Society. Website includes a birders forum and seasonal site guides for great birding spots in NJ.

Gloucester County Nature Club Local non-profit with a focus to educate the public on the natural world around them. Website includes details on the history, fieldtrips, programs, and special events of this dynamic organization.

Monmouth County Audubon Society. Website includes news on upcoming programs and events, local news and environmental info, injured bird info, links, and bimonthly newsletter.

New York

New York State Bluebird Society A non-profit dedicated to the conservation of the Eastern Bluebird Sialia sialis, the state bird. With links to other bluebird pages.

Brooklyn Bird Club Comprehensive website for NYC area. Lists hot spots in and around Brooklyn and Queens, including Prospect Park, Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, Gateway NRA. Area checklists and maps included. Useful compendium for birders visiting NYC area.

North Carolina

Piedmont Bird Club Founded 1938, 138 members. Web site has calendar of meetings and field trips, checklist and information about regional birds, field trip reports, places to bird in Guilford County, NC, photos by members, links.

Nova Scotia

Nova Scotia Bird Society A focus for birders in the province for almost 40 years, serving over 500 members. Web page includes info on meetings and field trips, telephone information line, information for visitors, and latest issue of Nova Scotia Birds.

Ohio

Kirtland Bird Club Meets meets on the first Wednesday of each month, September through June, at 7:30 pm at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. Website includes info about meetings, field trips, birds sighted, newsletter (pdf).

Ohio Ornithological Society Welcoming backyard birdwatchers and researchers in the field alike, the Ohio Ornithological Society is the only statewide organization specifically devoted to fostering a deeper appreciation of wild birds, fellowship and collaboration in advancing our collective knowledge about them, and our ability to speak with one voice to preserve Ohio's bird habitats.

Ohio Young Birders Club A chapter of the Black Swamp Bird Observatory, this club was founded in 2006 and serves young birders, ages 12 - 19 years old. The clubs goals include creating a community for young birders throughout Ohio and beyond and fostering an interest in natural history and encouraging young people to spend more time outside. The website includes meeting, field trip, and membership information.

Western Cuyahoga Audubon Society. Programs held first Tuesday of month September to June at the Rocky River Nature Center in North Olmsted, OH. Field trips held in the Northern Ohio area. Website includes programs, field trips, newsletters, animal rehab directory and volunteer opportunities.

Ontario Field Ornithologists Premier organization in Ontario for birders, dedicated to the study of bird life in Ontario. Kitchener Waterloo Field Naturalists Informative website that includes info about bird sightings in the area, KWFN Young Naturalist Prize, listservs, migration sites, an extensive links hub, a photo salon, announcements, checklists, news and more.

Oregon

Oregon Field Ornithologists Founded in 1980. OFO publishes Oregon Birds, a quarterly journal. Website has info about OFO, Oregon Breeding Bird Atlas project, Oregon Bird Records Committee, field trips and meetings, state checklist, and links to Oregon Birders OnLine, other Oregon and youth birding sites.

Klamath Basin Audubon Society The Klamath Basin Audubon Society was founded in 1983 after the Bald Eagle Conference, which had been going since 1979, made local folks see the need for such an organization. Our membership is currently over 160 (as of October, 2005) with well over 260 names on our mailing list.

Pennsylvania

South Carolina

Greenville County Bird Club. Serves Upstate South Carolina and nearby western North Carolina. Founded in February 2000 to promote birding and to encourage responsible environmental stewardship. Site contains News and Outings sections as well as trip reports with photographs. Checklists are available for download and hawk migration counts are available for each year since 1988.

Hilton Pond Center for Piedmont Natural History Non-profit based near York. Website includes photos and info about flora and fauna found in most habitats in eastern U.S, the Center's long-term bird-banding research projects, and "This Week at Hilton Pond," a pictorial account of natural changes through the seasons.

South Dakota

Sioux Falls Bird Club. An organization founded to promote the enjoyment, study, and conservation of wild birds in The Sioux Falls region.

Tennessee

Tennessee Ornithological Society Founded 1915, first chapter established at Nashville with Knoxville in 1923. Publishes quarterly journal The Migrant (launched in 1930) plus semi-annual newsletter Tennessee Warbler. Texas

Houston Audubon
Currently celebrating over 40 years of conservation, Houston Audubon promotes the conservation and appreciation of birds and wildlife habitat. Current information on field trips, membership meetings, and other events can be found at www.houstonaudubon.org.

Texas Ornithological Society TOS was founded in 1953 as a nonprofit organization. The purpose of the Society is to promote the discovery and dissemination of knowledge of birds; to encourage specifically the observation, study and conservation of birds in Texas; to encourage the formation of local birding clubs; and to stimulate cooperation among professional ornithologists. The website, www.texasbirds.org, has quarterly bird reports from each of the eight TOS regions and information on upcoming events including meetings and field trips.

Utah

Utah Ornithological Society (UOS) The website has information about membership, journal subscription, local and state checklists, birding records in Utah including access to the records of the Utah Bird Records Committee.

Virginia

Northern Virginia Bird Club The club was founded in 1955 as a chapter of the Virginia Society of Ornithologists. Website offers schedule of walks (two per week, Sept - June), newsletter, schedule of meetings, pictures taken by members and links to other birding sites.

Washington

Washington Ornithological Society Founded in 1988 "...to provide a forum for birders from throughout the state to gather and share information on bird ID, population status and birding sites". Over 500 amateur and professional ornithologist members. Web includes checklist, photos and links.

Washington State: Rainier Audubon Society (South King County Chapter) Website has a lot of info about the society's activities, projects, CBC data, bird sightings, how to subscribe to the Wa-Rainier Listserv, nest boxes, wild bird care, green gardening.

West Virginia

The Brooks Bird Club An independent, educational, non-profit which promotes the study and enjoyment of birds and other elements of the natural world. Headquartered in Wheeling, West Virginia.

Wisconsin

Chequamegon Bird Club A club based in Medford, WI with over 100 members.

OshKosh Bird Club founded in May 1970 in order to stimulate interest in and promote the preservation of birds. Club members are actively involved each year in field trips, bird counts, and local bird projects.

Bluebird Restoration Association of Wisconsin (BRAW) seeks to monitor and increase the production of the Eastern Bluebird and other native cavity-nesting birds through a coordinated statewide nest box construction and monitoring program.

The Wisconsin Society for Ornithology (WSO) Organized in 1939 to encourage the study of Wisconsin birds. The aims have expanded to emphasize all of the many enjoyable aspects of birding and to support the research and habitat protection necessary to preserve Wisconsin birdlife. Members include backyard birders, ornithology hobbyists, as well as professional ornithologists.
