If you have been birding for any length of time, you are familiar with the migration paths of birds. The flyways are the superhighways for birds to get to and from their breeding grounds. There is a special place north of Veracruz City, Mexico, where the mountains are so close to the coast that it causes a narrows on this superhighway, and that's where we are going! Basing our trips out of Xalapa (also spelled Jalapa), we will visit the famed Hotel Bienvenido in Cardel (a rooftop hawkwatch site), the soccer field grandstands at the Chichicaxtle hawkwatch site for up to 26 species of raptors, plus trips to the highlands and city parks where endemics, other residents and migrants are expected. The mixed flocks of warblers cause that rush we are so addicted to (including Red, Golden-browed, and Rufous-capped Warbler), and the hummer specialties add to the feeling: Wedge-tailed Sabrewing, Azure-crowned, Berylline, and Bumblebee Hummingbirds. Blue Mockingbird, Cinnamon-bellied Flowerpiercer, Rufous-naped Wren, Montezuma Oropendola, White-winged Tanager, Aztec Parakeet, Gray Silky-flycatcher, and Masked Tityra are all calling you to join us! Ven conmigo!
